Singer Museum and Theater
One of the cultural gems in the Gooi area is Singer Laren. Singer Laren is an art museum with an extensive international collection and a theater with a very varied program.
The Singer Museum in Laren has a 'classically modern' collection of international visual art from the period of 1880-1950. You will find works by artists from the surroundings of the Barbizon School, including Walter Griffin, Martin Borgord, Henri Le Sidaner and impressionist Gooi artists such as Jacob and Willem Dooijewaard. The Singer Museum has ever since been enriched with work by Bart van der Leck, Jan Sluijters, Leo Gestel, Chris Beekman, Jan Toorop, Else Berg, Gustave De Smet and Herman Kruyder, among others.
Since the founding of the Singer Theater in the same building as the museum, Laren can enjoy a very varied program of theater, cabaret, musicals, classical music, children's performances and lectures. The Singer Theater has played a unique role in the rise of television in the Netherlands. More than 1000 programs were recorded in the Singer Concert Hall. After that, the hall grew into a much-attended theater.
Four museums in the Gooi are joining forces and jointly highlighting their gardens in a 'museum gardens brochure'. The Gooi and Vecht region is known for its beautiful nature and landscapes. Less well known is that four museums manage and maintain their gardens as part of their collection. Singer Laren, Rijksmuseum Muiderslot, Pinetum Blijdenstein and Kasteel Museum Sypesteyn present in a joint brochure the story of their special garden collections to allow visitors to discover their green treasures.
